Royal Welsh Agricultural Show: Conversations & Connections

The FGB UK team from Wales and Hereford made a meaningful impact at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show this July. Handing out over 200 Voice magazines and engaging in conversations with visitors from across Wales and beyond.

The Royal Welsh Show is one of the UK’s largest agricultural events, drawing more than 200,000 visitors annually. Providing a vibrant backdrop for outreach, testimony, and unexpected moments of real connection.

CONNECTING WITH VISITORS, ONE CONVERSATION AT A TIME

Wally de Winton, Peter Pember and John Mansell represented FGB UK on Monday, moving through the food halls, machinery displays, and exhibition areas with Voice magazines in hand. Early in the day, John was approached by a man who eagerly flicked through the magazine and shared, “I did the Alpha course but that was when I was in prison many years ago.” As John asked whether he had found the Lord, the man called back with joy, “Oh yes!”

A simple encounter, yet deeply encouraging.

Later, Wally found himself chatting with a retired local farmer and his wife in the food hall. Both of whom recognised his surname printed on the back of the Voice magazine. They turned out to know two of his distant cousins, a reminder of how small and connected the Welsh farming community can be. Wally also handed a magazine to a man running a 1919 Case petrol/tvo tractor in the vintage machinery display, another local who received the Voice with interest.

John also shared a light‑hearted conversation with a man who asked, “Why should I change my life? I’m happy with it. I don’t drink and don’t smoke.” The conversation soon turned to beer, farming, and Jeremy Clarkson’s support for rural communities. Not overtly spiritual, but the man accepted the Voice magazine.

“I found it harder going than usual,” Wally reflected, “but perhaps because we were doing some good!”

“We take them as they come,” John said. “I was fortunate to have only good conversations, even if a bit comical.”

The Royal Welsh Show is known for its celebration of agriculture, rural life, livestock competitions, food halls, crafts, and heritage displays. This year’s event once again brought together farmers, families, exhibitors, and international visitors. It created a rich environment for FGB UK to share testimonies and plant seeds of faith. The team also connected with those who made their visit possible, stopping by the prayer room before leaving the grounds.

We are grateful to Wally and John for their faithful outreach, and to everyone who received a Voice magazine or shared a moment of conversation. As always, we trust that God will use every encounter whether serious, surprising, or humorous to touch lives in ways only He can.

Let’s make sure that during our prayer time we pray for all people that received a Voice Magazine during the show.

It’s wonderful to hear of our members planning events and coming up with innovative ideas to spread God’s love and real life stories for transformation.
