A real life story bringing joy and happiness – through all circumstances

Discovering God: A Journey from Knowing About to Truly Knowing

My name is Sunday, a name I proudly carry, born on a Sunday. For me, the days of the week have a playful twist: on Saturday, I am “Tomorrow,” and on Monday, I become “Yesterday.” But beyond names and days, my story is one of spiritual awakening, perseverance, and the transformative power of faith. Growing up in Nigeria in a Christian family, I attended church every Sunday. Yet, for many years, I lived with a crucial distinction: I knew about God, but I didn’t truly know Him.

This article is a reflection of my personal journey, a testimony of how I moved from mere knowledge of God to a deep, living relationship with Him. I hope my story encourages anyone seeking a closer connection with God, struggling with faith, or simply searching for meaning in life.

Knowing About God Versus Knowing God

Many people, like I once did, can tell you facts about God. They might have read the Bible, attended church services, and understand theological concepts. But knowing about God is different from knowing God personally. When you know about God, you might recognize His existence and attributes intellectually. But to know God means to have a personal relationship with Him — to feel His presence, hear His voice, and experience His guidance in your life.

For years, I was stuck in the realm of knowing about God. I could recite scriptures and understand religious teachings, but I had not yet experienced the living connection that transforms faith into joy and peace. It was this yearning for a deeper connection that led me to a pivotal moment one night years ago.

A Night of Seeking: Asking God to Reveal Himself

Late one night, around eleven o’clock, I found myself on my knees, asking God to reveal Himself to me. I wasn’t sure what prompted this sudden desire — maybe a longing deep inside or a restless spirit. I prayed, “God, if You are real, I want to see You. I want to hear from You. I want to experience You beyond just reading about You.”

That night marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I expected a dramatic, unmistakable sign. I imagined God speaking directly to me in a booming voice or appearing in a visible form. But God’s revelation came differently — gradually and subtly, through wisdom, understanding, and new ways of seeing the world around me.

The Journey of Faith and Obedience

My journey wasn’t without challenges. I was a university student studying geology, a path I chose with the hope of becoming a renowned scientist. But deep inside, my spirit nudged me toward a different calling. One day, while sitting in the university church and listening to the choir, I felt a strong impression in my heart. God was telling me, “Sunday, this is what I want you to do for Me.”

I was scared. I didn’t want to abandon my academic dreams. I prayed fervently, asking God for clarity and strength. Eventually, I embraced this calling and started using my talent for writing songs and singing as a way to worship God. This decision came with ups and downs. I faced opposition, including from lecturers who misunderstood my faith and accused me falsely. Financial struggles also tested my resolve, as I often lacked money despite support from my parents.

Yet, I refused to give up. I kept pushing forward, trusting that God was guiding me through every trial. This perseverance laid the foundation for a deeper relationship with God, one built on trust and obedience rather than just knowledge.

Experiencing God’s Provision and Miracles

After moving to London over twenty years ago, my faith was tested in new ways. I joined a church and continued my spiritual walk, but financial hardships persisted. I remember a particular moment in Woolwich when I was so broke I wasn’t sure how I would survive. Despite this, I decided to obey God and give to the church. Shortly afterward, I received a check for forty-nine pounds — a small but significant miracle that reaffirmed God’s presence in my life.

There were other times when God’s provision surprised me. Once, after a church service, I received a call out of the blue offering me a car. I hadn’t asked anyone for help; it was simply God’s timing. Another time, I felt compelled by the Spirit to register for a special course that required a hefty fee I didn’t have. I obeyed anyway, trusting God to provide. Miraculously, before the end of the month, the money came through unexpected channels.

These experiences taught me that knowing God means trusting Him fully, even when circumstances seem impossible. It means stepping out in faith, confident that God’s wisdom and power will sustain you.

Faith in Action: Using God’s Wisdom in My Career

While pursuing my university degree, I was given a challenging project, something a PhD student might tackle. I applied a unique formula inspired by God’s guidance, and it worked perfectly. My supervisor was amazed and said, “This is professor-level work.” This success was not just academic; it was a sign that God was equipping me with the knowledge and skills I needed to fulfill my purpose.

Later, I shared ideas with a pastor who owned a company. Though I couldn’t afford to be paid initially, I trusted that God would reward obedience. True to His promise, opportunities opened up, and I advanced both spiritually and professionally.

Finding Joy and Peace in God Amidst Challenges

Despite the many hurdles I faced, including false accusations and financial struggles, my heart remained joyful. People often ask me, “Sunday, with all that you do on social media and ministry, don’t you have problems?” The answer is yes — I have problems like everyone else. But I have discovered a secret to happiness: my joy and peace come from God.

Whenever I feel down, I turn to the piano, sing, and rejoice in the Lord. I find joy in the little things — the beauty of flowers, quiet moments at home, and the comforting presence of God. This joy is not dependent on circumstances but flows from a deep conviction that God is with me.

My happiness isn’t superficial; it’s rooted in a relationship with God that sustains me through every trial. This joy is contagious — many of my coworkers and friends have noticed the energy and peace I bring into the workplace, and it inspires them to seek God too.

The Power of Conviction and Trust in God

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the power of conviction. When you truly believe in God, when you have experienced His faithfulness, you develop a conviction that nothing can shake. This conviction fuels perseverance and hope, even in dark times.

God’s energy has become my source of strength. I refuse to allow darkness or negativity to overpower me. Instead, I bring God’s light and energy into every part of my life — my work, relationships, and ministry. This mindset has transformed not only my life but also the lives of those around me.

Embracing God’s Love and Purpose

Through all the ups and downs, I have come to realize that God’s love is the most valuable gift we receive. Money, success, and material possessions pale in comparison to the peace, joy, and knowledge that come from knowing God personally.

We are all God’s children, invited to share in His love and wisdom. My prayer is that everyone who reads this will find the courage to seek God with a sincere heart, to experience His presence, and to embrace the life He desires for them.

Final Reflections: Moving Forward with Faith

Life is full of trials and tribulations, but these challenges do not define us. What matters is how we respond — whether we let difficulties discourage us or whether we hold fast to faith and keep moving forward.

I am not going back to where I was before. My journey with God has changed me forever. I encourage you to pursue a relationship with God, to listen for His voice, and to trust Him fully. When you do, you will discover a life filled with joy, peace, and purpose beyond anything you have imagined.

To God be the glory for all He has done and continues to do. May His wisdom, understanding, and love guide you on your own journey of faith.
