Richard was born into a Christian family during the last year of WW2, and brought up in the Congregational Church at Kingswood, Bristol, where his parents were leaders of the Sunday school.
After A levels he went to the University of Liverpool to study electrical engineering, specialising in electronics – a new subject in those days.
His faith grew stronger at university with the privilege of being in that sort of community, although he was always a very shy person. After graduating, he went to work for the British Aircraft Corporation Guided Weapons division, which became Space Systems. He married, but it didn’t last, and he joined a Christian Singles group where he was introduced to the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship.
Several years later he met his wife, Marjorie, in an FGB meeting while they were both coming round from ministry. Over the years, God was dealing with his shyness, and brought him from being someone who couldn’t read out the notices, to being a Regional Director of FGB. In between FGB and the Methodist Church, and sundry other Christian activities, Richard follows his late father’s interest in the restoration of classic motorcycles, and he and Marjorie still ride when the opportunities arise.
